Here’s How To Call In Sick To Work

how to call in sick

We all dread making that call to say that we aren’t coming into work, but here’s a suggested script that will help you sound like a professional.

“Good morning, it’s Dave. I wanted to let you know that I’m under the weather and won’t be able to come in today. I’ll use today to take care of myself and will plan on seeing you when I’m in better shape tomorrow morning.”

A phone call is always better than a text or an email, but that depends on your company culture.

Most state laws prohibit your employer from asking you what illness you have or demanding a doctor’s note, unless you are out for an extended period of time.

If you’ve got things going on that have nothing to do with feeling sick, it’s ok to say this: “I’m not available to work today due to some pressing personal matters. I will be fully capable of work tomorrow and will see you then. I really appreciate your understanding.”
