It’s no surprise that Mont-Saint-Michel was the inspiration behind Rapunzel’s real home. The castle is popular for tourists year-round and the magical island that is in the cross-section where Normandy and Brittany meet is practically mystical.

In the film, the castle is beautifully lit and featured during a lantern-lighting celebration that makes it all the more enchanting.

While it’s not technically a castle, there’s no denying that it has some touches of any other medieval fortress.

At the top of the island, there is a medieval monastery that would attract and host pilgrims for centuries.
