The 2010 computer-animated adventure film, Tangled, is based on the German fairy tale Rapunzel — among the tales published by the Brothers Grimm.
The story revolves around a young princess whose been imprisoned in a tall tower by her mother since she was a baby. One day, a young man trespasses and he takes her into the real world.
The real story, however, is about poor Rapunzel’s past. The woman who kept her in the tower wasn’t actually her mother, but the woman who stole her as a baby from the King and Queen.
Rapunzel’s real home was never a tower, but a beautiful castle based on a popular fortress in France.
