Vianden Castle, Luxembourg

In Luxembourg, the small country wedged between France, Germany, and Belgium, you can find one of the largest fortresses just west of the Rhine river — Vianden Castle.

The castle was built between the 11th and 14th centuries, on the shadows of a Roman castle and a Carolingian refuge. It has Romanesque style semi-circular arches with later additions of Gothic architectural elements.
