Trakai Island Castle, Lithuania
This large brick castle in Eastern Europe is surrounded by Lake Galve, which is home to 20 islands, including Trakai Island.
The island is one of the main centers of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. It was once a great strategic defense until the Battle of Grunwald that led to a big defeat in part of the Duchy of Lithuania.
Eventually, this beautiful fortress fell into ruin in the 17th century and became a prison. But it’s not like that anymore…
