Some visitors claim the silence in Pripyat is so profound and eerie that they have trouble staying in the city for long, as it makes them deeply uncomfortable.

The only constant is the beeping of dosimeters, warning users of radiation hotspots.

There are no overnight accommodations within 10 kilometers of Chernobyl Power Plant, and only two people live in this most contaminated area. Grandpa Savva and his wife Elena have risen to fame for living in the settlement next to Pripyat, Novoshepelichi village.
