Megan Thee Stallion debuted her Fashion Nova collection earlier this month with sales over $1.2 million (£899,000) in 24 hours, according to the New York Post. But it hasn’t been all flashing lights and cash-registers ringing a big win for the singer.

A designer named Aazhia has posted on Instagram that the Megan had stolen the design of one of her dresses.

Aazhia wrote, “IMA BREAK THIS DOWN REAL SIMPLE! MY DRESS [WAS STOLEN] AND USED IN THIS MEGAN X FN COLLAB!.” Aazhia alleged Megan’s team did not tell her they were using her design and she was not compensated.

Aazhia claims that one of Megan’s stylists reached out to her asking that she pull one of her dresses for an event the rapper was attending. Aazhia posted, “[SHE] AND HER TEAM ARE VERY MUCH AWARE OF (MY) BRAND AND THIS WAS APPROVED BY HER!”

Megan’s Response

There’s a lot to unpack here.

On The Morning Hustle, Megan Thee Stallion had this to say about her Fashion Nova line stealing the work. She stated that “a lot of times people say that they talked to somebody from my team…” and “A lot of times, [my team] won’t even bring me… They don’t tell me who they talking to,” she said. “I’ve probably never heard of you. And if I have, I’ve never seen that dress before. But it’s been a dress that has been done a lot over the years.”

So, while the singer/designer denied the blatant stealing, she went on to say, “So I feel bad that people’s initial reaction would be to just come at me like, ‘Oh, you a Black woman! You’re stealing from Black women!’ And I’m like, ‘Damn, hold on, sis, because like I don’t know you.'”

Megan then added that if it was a “real misunderstanding” she would not have a problem saying, “‘I’m sorry, sis.’ [I would] have checked my stylist. Like, you don’t do that. That’s not right.”

She also stated that if this was the case, the dress would be out of the collection. Furthermore, she said compensation would happen.

Aazhia responded on her Instagram, saying, “I’m vexed because it’s condescending, it’s disrespectful, it’s hypocritical.” She went on to say, “My dress is from the ‘90s. And [Megan] said, in her opinion, it’s not stolen… But for me, all I saw was more disrespect.”
