Another in a long line of chains founded by celebrities, this burger and chicken joint was created by NFL Hall of Famer Gino Marchetti in 1957. During its lifetime, Gino’s made a name for itself with its “Ameche 35” hamburger sauce, as well as commercials starring Dom DeLuise as the “Gino’s Genie.”
At one point in 1972, Gino’s had 330 locations throughout the US. However, the company was bought by Marriott in the ’80s, who turned many locations into Roy Rogers. Over time, the remaining Gino’s locations closed, and today just two are left, both in the Baltimore area.
