These cozy little burger shops originated in Louisville, Kentucky, when businessman Harry F. Duncan opened the first location in 1927. True to their name, Little Taverns were known for being compact — most locations functioned as takeout with minimal seating. Little Tavern enjoyed regional success throughout much of the late 20th century, reaching 50 locations at its peak.
