Another cool fact about Wood’s painting revolves around the subjects. While many painters’ subjects are models, royalty, or Revolutionary war heroes, Wood chose his sister and his dentist for the job. However, these weren’t just detailed portrayals of his acquaintances, the father-daughter duo is inspired by Flemish Renaissance art, which Wood became familiar with while studying in Europe.
