People Recreating Famous Paintings from Home

The Bookworm (Der Bücherwurm) by Carl Spitzweg (1850)

Like any book fanatic or worm, shelves full of books are better than treasures. Clearly, Carl Spitzweg agrees. The German painter and poet created this piece to challenge the conservative moods of Europe during the Napoleonic Wars and 1848 revolutions.

The man pictured, an older scholar, is unconcerned with the chaos of the outside world. The recreation on the right emulates that same feeling. Ignoring the chaos of the outside world, the empty shelves at grocery stores, and coronavirus fears, the individual looks for a good book.
